Skaramuča Plavac Mali

Winery: Skaramuča

Classification: Dry red wine

Varietals: 100% Plavac Mali

Appellation: Pelješac Peninsula, Dalmatia, Croatia

Density & Yield: 10,000 vines/ha; 1.1 kg/vine

Annual Production: 150,000 Bottles

Alcohol: 13%

Climate: Mediterranean, with dry and hot summers, and mild winters

Terrain: Inland locations on Pelješac Peninsula, mostly flat and approximately 300 meters above sea level. Red soil with clay stones over a limestone base.

Farming: No irrigation, spraying only with sulfur in April, if necessary.

Vinification: Manual harvest, slightly raisinated grapes, destemmed, fermented with selected yeasts with an 8 day maceration. Matured for 6 months in stainless steel tanks, coarselz filtered and released to the market after 2 months in bottles.

Tasting Notes: Normally a robust wine, this Plavac Mali is more youthful and bright. It is still rustic, like plavac should be, but easygoing and casual at the same time. Aromas of plum and cherry are followed by mouth-watering acidity and chewy, earthy fruitiness and which lingers on the palate.

Ideal for casual fare: BBQ, burgers, or čevapi, kebabs, steak, grilled squid or harder cheeses like parmeggiano.
