In the small village of Loče, there is an impressive concentration of stunning steep hillsides as prime settings for amazing cool-climate vineyard sites. Increasingly, as the town’s older farmers get too old to tend to these vineyards, many of the younger generations are not willing to tend these vines within these dramatic settings.
Jure Brumec is a local farmer and his family has been so in this village for generations, on the picturesque Klokočovnik Hill. A close neighbor and friend of Sanctum’s, he is an expert on the many hillsides and small vineyard sites in this impressive sub-region.
He has now begun producing a small quantity of wine from his estate vineyards under his own label, on a hilltop cellar overlooking the villages of Loče and Žiče. He has a strong focus on the lively white grapes that are traditionally grown in this area, as well as elegant reds that have been thriving in this cool climate for centuries. He also is known locally for his small-batch cognac-style brandies.
